“The Montel Williams Show” will end its 17-year career on CBS at the end of this season, it was announced Wednesday.
CBS Television Distribution, which syndicates the talk show, announced
on Wednesday that it would stop making new episodes of the program. It
will continue however to provide stations with a full year's worth of
“Best of Montel” broadcasts, in a compilation series.
“We have been honored to have Montel as a part of our family for the
past 17 years, and we're very excited that Montel will live on through
these ‘best of’ episodes,” said John Nogawski, president and COO of CBS
TV Distribution.
The Associated Press quoted Williams as saying, “I can't say thank you
enough to those who've welcomed me into their homes for the past 17
years. It has been both an honor and a joy.”
The 51-year-old Williams launched his daily talk show in 1991; in 1996,
he won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. His show
was also honored with Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Talk
Show in 2001, and Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk Show Host
in 2002.
The show’s official website describes it as “an enduring brand built on quality and integrity.”
Williams is a decorated military officer.
Earlier this month he released a new book, “Living Well: 21 Days to
Transform Your Life, Supercharge Your Health and Feel Spectacular,”
which chronicles the fitness, nutrition and lifestyle plan that has
helped him cope with the multiple sclerosis he was diagnosed with
several years ago, montelshow.com says.
The program Montel presents in his book promise to help readers “fight
obesity, cancer, heart disease and chronic illnesses and help everyone
feel spectacular by living well."
